Why Study Biology at Westminster?

Explore the fascinating fields of ecology, microbiology, ornithology, genetics, and cell biology. Through fieldwork, experimentation, research, and internships, learn about the world we live in and its value to us. Undergraduate research is prominent in our program and is offered to students to learn first-hand the process of science.

The Biology program offers a breadth of coursework and a focus on laboratory learning. Students are prepared to attend graduate school in the sciences; attend medical or veterinary school; teach biology in secondary schools; enter the biotechnology job market; or apply their knowledge to other fields. Recent biology graduates have been accepted to professional and graduate schools at a rate of 50-100% each year, worked as laboratory researchers, educators, and biotechnologists.

The Westminster Difference:

• Use cutting-edge equipment in the new Meldrum Science Center on a daily basis, with the ability to discover findings under extreme conditions using modern research methods.
• Small class sizes in integrated laboratory classrooms with space for semester long student research projects.
• Undergraduate research is prominent in our program and is offered to students to learn first-hand the process of science. Presentation of research results at national meetings is encouraged.
• Westminster houses the Great Salt Lake Institute, a research driven organization promoting exploration of a national landmark in Salt Lake City.
• Westminster is the center for Roots and Shoots in the Intermountain West, a Jane Goodall environmental international foundation.
• Organizations, such as the Pre-Med Society or the National Biological Honor Society foster student interaction and connections with the scientific community.
